Light snow forecasted in Triad on Wednesday night

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) —Today will be great for improving secondary road conditions!

We will have mostly cloudy to cloudy skies, but temperatures will get a boost into the mid-40s this afternoon.  In fact, we are expecting temperatures to be above freezing before lunchtime.

There is a cold front to the north, and an area of low pressure to the west-southwest. The cold front is forecast to approach the Piedmont early tomorrow morning. We will have cloudy skies overnight with lows near 32 degrees.

Most of Wednesday is going to be cloudy with patchy sprinkles during the workday and highs in the upper-30s. As the low moves eastward around 5 p.m., showers will begin to move into the Piedmont from the south. As the rain falls over lingering snow, it will freeze on contact across the southern Piedmont. By late evening, the precipitation will be all light snow, which will continue into the early morning hours. This is NOT going to be a major storm by any measure.  Lows Wednesday night will be near 25 degrees and accumulation between1/2of an inch and 1 inch is expected.

Watch: What are the roads like in the Piedmont Triad on Tuesday morning?

In the wake of this low-pressure system, our skies are expected to become partly cloudy on Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s highs are going to stay in the upper-30s, but we’ll pop back into the mid-40s on Friday.

Another cold front will sweep across the Carolinas on Friday night, but the air will be too dry to produce any precipitation. We will notice cooler weather this weekend, with highs near 40 degrees on Saturday, with loads of sunshine.  Skies turn partly to mostly cloudy on Sunday with highs returning to the upper-30s…
