CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Jury selection is set to begin this week in the trial of Deonis Poindexter, one of two men accused in the New Year’s Day 2023 shooting death of an 11-year-old girl.
Poindexter is charged in connection with the death of Amethyst Silva, who was struck by gunfire shortly after midnight while celebrating the holiday with her family outside an apartment complex in Corpus Christi.
According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, Poindexter and co-defendant Jacob Leal illegally fired their weapons in the direction of several homes. Police said one of the bullets hit Silva at the Allure Apartments on Everhart Road…
