Migrating birds flapping it for Louisiana. Here’s how to get your yard ready to attract them.

Longer days ahead mean migrating birds will soon be making their way back from Central and South America to Louisiana for a quick stopover or to stay all summer to breed and nest.

“Millions of birds will migrate through the Mississippi Flyway to Louisiana as early as February through March, with peak migration mid to late April,” said Jane Patterson, president and education chairman of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society.

Given Louisiana’s proximity to the flyway, chances are excellent that residents see one or more of these colorful songbirds at their feeders. If planning starts now, they’ll have a perfect host yard for these flying visitors.
