These Jackson area restaurants, facilities failed Jan. health inspections

In the Jackson area, nine restaurants and food service facilities received failing health inspection grades in January 2026, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

As of Feb. 2, two of the nine facilities have conducted follow-up inspections and rectified the failing grade.

Below are the restaurants and food-service facilities in District V, which includes Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties, that received a failing grade of “C.”

Hinds County

  • The Magic Spot, located at 1805 Bailey Ave. in Jackson, received a failing grade during a permit inspection on Jan. 13. The inspection notes unclean food contact surfaces, improperly stored toxic substance and improperly separated food. As of Feb. 2, the Magic Spot has not conducted a follow-up inspection. The facility previously received one other failing grade in 2021, which was rectified in a follow-up.
  • Methodist Children’s Home, located at 805 North Flag Chapel Road in Jackson, received a failing grade during a permit inspection on Jan. 16. The inspection notes that the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the role. As of Feb. 2, Methodist Children’s Home had not conducted a follow-up. The facility previously received one other failing grade in 2023, which was rectified in a follow-up.
  • Krystal, located at 3875 U.S. Highway 80 West in Jackson, received two failing grades in January. The fast food restaurant failed a permit inspection on Jan. 8 due to inadequate water pressure. The restaurant then failed a follow-up inspection on Jan. 14. According to the inspection notes, the restaurant had fixed the water pressure, but failed the follow-up due to unclean food contact surfaces and unclean toilet facilities. As of Feb. 2, Krystal had not conducted a third follow-up. This Krystal location previously received one other failed inspection in 2024, which was rectified in a follow-up.
  • China Kitchen, located at 2106 Raymond Road in Jackson, failed a permit inspection on Jan. 29. The inspection notes a lack of proper cold holding temperatures. As of Feb. 2, the restaurant had not conducted a follow-up. China Kitchen had not previously failed a health inspection.

Madison County

  • Chicken Salad Chick, located at 1917 Main St. in Madison, failed a permit inspection on Jan. 13. The inspection notes a lack of a certified manager. As of Feb. 2, the restaurant had not conducted a follow-up. This Chicken Salad Chick location had not previously failed a health inspection.
  • Gator Jr.’s Major League BBQ, located at 119 Colony Crossing Way in Madison, failed a permit inspection on Jan. 7. The inspection notes a lack of a certified manager. The restaurant rectified the grade during a follow-up inspection on Jan. 27. Gator Jr.’s Major League BBQ had not previously failed a health inspection.
  • Canton Nutrition, located at 914 East Peace St. in Canton, failed a permit inspection on Jan. 15. The inspection lists multiple violations, including unclean hands, unclean toilet facilities, inadequate water pressure and inadequate hand washing facilities. Canton nutrition rectified the grade during a follow-up inspection on Jan. 15 and had not previously received a failing grade.

Rankin County

  • Fueltime 8 Exxon, located at 484 South Pearson Road in Pearl, received a failing grade during a permit inspection on Jan. 20. The inspection notes a lack of a certified manager, inadequate hand washing facilities and the presence of insects and/or rodents. As of Feb. 2, the gas station had not conducted a follow-up. This Exxon station previously failed two health inspections in 2021 and 2024, both of which were rectified in follow-up inspections.
  • Plato Feliz 2 Bar & Grill, located at 132 Lakeland Heights Blvd. in Flowood, failed two health inspections in January. On Jan. 12, the restaurant failed an inspection, which cites the presence of insects and/or rodents. The restaurant then failed to correct the issue by the time a follow-up inspection was conducted on Jan. 23. Plato Feliz 2 Bar & Grill had not previously failed a health inspection.
