Rockford Public Schools says lost days are unlikely to be made up in the event of a strike

Teachers launch hotline as they push for new contract

ROCKFORD — Superintendent Ehren Jarrett said Monday that the district is unlikely to make up for lost school days in the event of a teachers strike.

That message was delivered ahead of a bargaining session slated for Thursday, the second since teachers voted Jan. 24 to authorize an intent to strike. Jarrett said the Rockford Education Association had indicated it could strike as early as Feb. 21, meaning classes would begin to be affected starting Monday, Feb. 23. However, Rockford Education Association officials say there is no plan to strike by that date and there is no set timeline for when a strike could be called.
