New Japanese comfort joint brings sushi tacos, avocado bombs to Eugene

I love sushi, particularly nigiri — slices of fresh seafood pressed into a mound of seasoned rice with a sinus-clearing dab of wasabi.

Kasumi House does serve nigiri, as well as sashimi, and maki, and regular and signature rolls. But the Japanese comfort food eatery, which opened in Eugene earlier this year, is also cranking out sushi tacos.

They come two to an order ($17.95) and are filled with rice, kani (imitation crab) salad, and your choice of soft shell crab, salmon, raw tuna or shrimp. The tempura-fried seaweed shell is surprisingly sturdy, promising a loud and satisfying crackle with every bite. Dare I say I enjoyed this sharp departure from nigiri more than I thought I would.
