Alexandria sidewalk snow removal fines to resume more than week after storm

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — More than a week ago, a winter storm hit the DMV, leaving snow and sleet. However, as temperatures dropped, “snowcrete” formed, making it difficult to clear sidewalks, residential streets and intersections.

Starting on Feb. 3, the City of Alexandria will begin enforcing the sidewalk snow removal ordinance.

As a result, all business and property owners are urged to clear any snow and ice that remains from the storm as soon as possible. All vehicles should be parked on partially plowed streets to allow room for plow trucks.

According to the City Code Section 5-2-21, all snow along sidewalks, driveways and entrances is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner, occupant, community association or business.
