CLEVELAND — The owners of Public House in Cleveland’s Kamm’s Corners neighborhood have purchased a historic building next to the pub and restaurant that once served as a storefront for the neighborhood’s namesake.
The building, located at 17209 Lorain Ave. at the corner of Rocky River Drive, has been vacant since the 2016 closure of its last tenant, Kamm’s Café. Its new owners, who also own the Public House building at 17219 Lorain Ave., are currently evaluating potential uses for the site.
“This is a really special moment for us,” said Therese Chambers Arth, Public House co-owner. “To have the opportunity to purchase a building with this much history, right here in the heart of West Park, is incredibly meaningful. We’re proud to become stewards of a property that helped shape Kamm’s Corners and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Known among residents of the historic West Park area as the Kamm’s Building, 17209 Lorain Ave. was the original storefront for Oswald Kamm, a Swiss immigrant and general store proprietor who later became postmaster of Rockport Township, which later became the village of West Park before the land was annexed into the city of Cleveland.
