Local family produces igloo from recent snow, cold

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) — A warm first half of January 2026 was not a welcome sight for snow lovers, but that all changed after arctic air and winter storms brought in snow for the second half of the month. While many stayed indoors, some used it to their advantage, such as sledding, cross-country skiing, and even some families making igloos.

A family just outside of Columbia City constructed an igloo out of the snow that remained into the beginning of February. John Bader, the father of the family, said that this has been “under construction” for a couple of weeks.

“I saw it online, and I thought I could do this,” Bader said. “I got two boys, I knew they would love it.”
