East Lansing Human Rights Commission says city is overcharging for FOIA request

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The East Lansing Human Rights Commission met Monday to discuss a variety of issues — including next steps in getting their hands on what they say is important information regarding the MSU Welcome Weekendpepper-spraying incident.

The incident occurred on Aug. 24 of last year, outside of Dave’s Hot Chicken in East Lansing, when officers pepper-sprayed two young Black men.

The commission wants to look into the history of the two officers involved — Jace Kingsbury and Andrew Lyon — and hope to gain a better understanding of these officers’ previous interactions with East Lansing residents.
