2 bystanders shot in Midtown after gunman opens fire from moving car, MPD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Gunfire erupted Monday afternoon in Midtown, injuring two bystanders, police said.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), officers were dispatched just before 2:30 p.m. to North Belvedere Boulevard and Poplar Avenue, where a shooting occurred moments earlier. Investigators said it all started after a Hyundai Elantra crashed into a pole outside Joe’s Wine and Liquor, police said.

MPD said investigators later obtained footage from the liquor store showing the car vs. pole crash before a group of men jumped out and ran off. Moments later, the men and two other people — including a woman who had just left the liquor store — jump into a black Jeep, police said…
