Failure to call 811 results in gas line strike and evacuations, Manteca police say

(FOX40.COM) — A landscape company that failed to call 811 before digging struck a natural gas line, triggering evacuations and road closures, according to the Manteca Police Department.

Manteca police said the incident happened in the planter area at the northeast corner of West Antone Raymus Parkway and South Main Street, where the crew hit a 4-inch natural gas line belonging to Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

According to police, the gas immediately started leaking from the damaged line, with the sound of escaping gas heard from about 50 yards away…
