New Yorkers Cast Their Votes in Critical Special Elections Across Multiple Districts

Voters in New York State are heading to the polls today for a series of special elections. According to ABC7NY, three legislative seats are at stake, including the 36th Assembly District in Queens, the 74th Assembly District in Manhattan, and the 47th Senate District, also in Manhattan.

The 36th Assembly District was previously occupied by Zohran Mamdani who has since advanced to the role of mayor. Meanwhile, the 74th Assembly District needs replacement for Harvey Epstein who moved to the City Council, and Brad Hoylman-Sigal’s departure to become Manhattan borough president has left the 47th Senate District open. Despite interruptions by a winter storm during early voting periods, residents are expected to exercise their right to vote between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. today.

Not far behind, another special election fills the news cycle as the 61st Senate District seeks to appoint a successor for former State Senator and now-Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan. Spectrum News reports that Jeremy Zellner is on the ballot for the Democrats opposite Republican candidate Dan Gagliardo.
