Student found with gun parts at South Carolina high school

SOUTH CAROLINA — A temporary lockdown was ordered at Battery Creek High School on Tuesday morning after a student was found with inoperable firearm parts, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said a newly installed weapons detection device alerted when a 17-year-old student entered the school. A subsequent safety search of the student and his belongings uncovered several gun components, including an upper receiver for a rifle.

A school resource officer took possession of the items, which were later examined and determined to be inoperable. As a precaution, the school was briefly placed on lockdown. Authorities said the situation was resolved quickly and without injuries or further incident…
