Sheriff’s deputies use all-terrain vehicle to rescue ice fishermen stranded off of Port Clinton

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — Sheriff’s deputies in Ottawa County utilized a special all-terrain vehicle to rescue two ice fishermen who were stuck out on Lake Erie after falling into the water.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office tells 3News that the two fishermen went into the water near Port Clinton. While they were able to get out and onto the ice, they found themselves on the opposite side of the shore.

Deputies deployed a SHERP, an all-terrain vehicle that has the ability to move along the water and stay afloat. According to SHERP’s website, each of its tires has a volume of about 800 liters (210 gal). The total volume of the wheels gives a displacement of more than 3,200 kg (7000 lbs)…
