Court docs: Distracted FedEx driver kills worker in Cumberland County construction zone

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A FedEx driver is accused of being distracted when he crashed in an active construction zone, killing a worker on a Cumberland County highway last year.

Fares Amri, 43, of Delaware County, faces homicide by vehicle and other charges from the deadly Route 581 crash in an active construction zone near mile marker 5.1 on April 14, 2025, according to court records.

The charges filed by the Pennsylvania State Police show, there were signboards, traffic control devices, and a police cruiser positioned near the work zone with its lights on to alert drivers of a lane closure. Amri seemed to have been distracted by an electronic device, according to State Police, and crashed into a Kinsley Construction truck before hitting the median and then another truck.

“There was ample warning and numerous items that warned the defendant of roadwork being conducted,” the charging Trooper wrote in the criminal complaint…
