Knox County parent pushes back on newly created religious charter school seeking public funds

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,” that’s a direct quote from the United States Constitution. A recent lawsuit brought against Knox County Board of Education by a self-described religious charter school – which has no phone number, no campus, and only one staff member listed on their website– is seeking to change that.

“They are not taking it up with the state who made the law. They are taking it up with our Board of Education,” said former Knox County School Pychologist Amanda Collins.

Collins, a mother of three current and former Knox County Schools Students, is one of five taxpayers joining a lawsuit to prevent religious charter school Wilberforce Academy of Knoxville from receiving her money…
