EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation in El Paso said it is reviewing safety conditions near Montoya Lane and South Desert Boulevard after a series of crashes were reported in the area, which some caused power and cable outages.
There were four crashes reported in January near the exit ramp. Several of those crashes involved vehicles striking a utility pole, leading to multiple power outages in the northwest part of El Paso. Frustration over the repeated incidents has even led residents to place a meme on the utility pole as a form of protest.

KTSM 9 News reached out to Lauren Macias-Cervantes, TxDOT El Paso Public Information Officer, asking what is being done to address the issue. Macias-Cervantes said they’ve definitely noticed the increase in crashes.
TxDOT stated that it is now reviewing possible safety improvements and is collaborating with El Paso Electric to determine if relocating the pole is a viable option. Orange barrels have also been placed near the area as an immediate safety measure to better define the problem…
