Man sentenced to more than 2 decades in prison for Machesney Park shooting

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WIFR) – A man finds out his prison sentence for a 2024 shooting in Machesney Park.

Meovonte L. Cooper, 23, was sentenced to 26 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery. For this charge, the sentence must be served at a minimum of 85 percent.

He must also be on mandatory supervised release for three years after he gets out of prison.

Cooper was convicted of the offenses after a jury trial in March 2025…
