Albany City School District teacher advocates for 11-year-old student held in Texas detention center

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Tonight, a local chapter of “No Kings” arranged a candle-light vigil for those who have been killed or died as a result of increased federal immigration enforcement. Among local speakers, was a teacher, who spoke on behalf of his eleven-year-old student from the Capital region, who was detained recently, with his mother, and fifteen-year-old sister.

“I know this child, I know his kindness, I know his potential, and I know our country is better than this, even if our leaders are failing to prove it,” stated Waz Faizy, a teacher for the Albany City School District.

Faizy spoke on behalf of his student, who is currently being held in the South Texas Family Residential Center, a detention center in Dilley, Texas. The student told him the food and water in the facility do not feel safe to eat or drink, but his main concern is something different…
