Newbury Street and other roadways in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood were evacuated and closed down Tuesday night after multiple manholes in the area exploded and caught fire, according to Boston police.
Boston roadways closed as of 7 p.m. Tuesday:
- Newbury Street between Exeter Street and Clarendon Street,
- Dartmouth Street between Boylston Street and Commonwealth Avenue
- Exeter Street between Boylston Street and Commonwealth Avenue
- The intersection of Newbury Street and Dartmouth Street
Boston police received an initial call about a manhole fire at the intersection of Dartmouth and Newbury Streets shortly after 5:20 p.m., a police department spokesperson said in an email.
