Fire engulfs Amherst home; one rescued as $400K in damage reported

AMHERST, NY — An investigation is underway after a single-family home in the Town of Amherst caught fire Tuesday night.

According to the Amherst Fire Alarm Office, on February 3, shortly before midnight, firefighters responded to Catherine Street after receiving reports of smoke filling a home and a possible fire. Crews arriving on scene confirmed a working fire and found two male residents, one of whom was trapped on the second floor. Amherst Police say they were able to pull him to safety.

Both residents and one firefighter reportedly sustained minor injures and were transported to local hospitals for evaluation…
