Last week we looked at some of the nicknames of areas in Springfield. Some have been forgotten mostly and some are still known today for a certain area.
Some of the others were:
Black Branch: This was an area of a water stream that the town used for their source of water that ran along what is now Memorial Blvd. There were also many sulphur springs in the city. One I know of was located about where Wendy’s is located now. Black Branch then was not one of these.
Eastland Heights: This refers to the area east of town. It was rural route 7 and part of it was located in the county and not the city limits. The name came about in the very early 1900s. Many of the well-known people of Springfield lived in this area and was considered a good place to retire because of being away from Springfield and near what was called Draughon’s Lake, which was considered a good vacation and fishing spot for people from Nashville to get away from the big city.
