People who run from Alabama police could face years in prison under bill

Alabama lawmakers are moving quickly to pass a bill that would increase the penalty for attempting to elude police, with a special emphasis on repeat offenders.

The Alabama House on Tuesday passed the bill by Rep. Reed Ingram, R-Montgomery, by a vote of 103-0 after a short discussion.

The bill would change the crime of eluding or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer from a Class A misdemeanor, which can carry a sentence of up to one year in jail, to a Class D felony, which allows a sentence of up to five years…
