Accused CEO Killer’s Trial Dates Spark Legal Tug-Of-War In New York

A scheduling conflict has emerged between state and federal prosecutors over when accused killer Luigi Mangione will face trial for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Federal Judge Margaret Garnett has set jury selection for September 8 with opening arguments scheduled for October 13 in the federal death penalty case, according to court documents. However, Manhattan prosecutors are pushing for Mangione’s state trial to begin on July 1, arguing that New York has priority in prosecuting the high-profile case.
