Fallen power line ignites car fire during cold snap in Palm Beach

Amid gusting winds and near-freezing temperatures, a fallen power line ignited a fierce car fire that rattled residents of Palm Beach’s near North End on Feb. 1, sending flames into the night sky, town officials said.

A charred patch of road next to a partially melted utility pole showed the remnants of the fire that was sparked about 9 p.m. on the north side of the 100 block of Sunrise Avenue, just east of Green’s Pharmacy and near the Ocean Towers South Condominium, Palm Beach Fire-Rescue spokesman Assistant Chief Joseph Sekula confirmed.
