I-TEAM: Assistant Principal arrested on felony charges, placed on leave

IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (WAFB) – An assistant principal at McKinley Middle Magnet in Baton Rouge was arrested Monday and charged with multiple felonies. She was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail.

Tuesday morning, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools placed her on leave.

April Scott is accused of bringing contraband into a penal institution and gambling in public. She was arrested by Louisiana State Police, the WAFB I-TEAM learned.

Sources said this is all tied to a scheme that was uncovered in 2024 involving Broderick Scott. Scott was arrested after state troopers uncovered a large-scale illegal sports gambling operation.

According to LSP, evidence revealed that Scott operated the scheme from within the correctional facility, utilizing contraband smuggled into the facility to facilitate and sustain his activities. Over 30,000 transactions were reportedly linked to the operation…
