New Orleans deacon’s murder unsolved 10 years later

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — It was a little before midnight on the night of Feb. 1, 2016, when the New Orleans Police Department was called to the corner of St. Bernard Avenue and Republic Street. That’s where they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Within a matter of hours, the man would be declared dead at the hospital. Ten years later, the case remains unsolved. It’s the latest mystery to roll on the Wheel of Justice.

According to police, the victim was 24-year-old Roshawn Smith. He had a wife and three children, and he was a deacon at the Abundant Life Tabernacle Church on Franklin Avenue.

Crimestoppers offered a $2,500 reward in the case. But the organization’s rewards are usually available for two years after they’re initially announced.
