New workforce hub signals start of ‘Green-Collar’ economy in Aurora

AURORA — The City of Aurora has officially launched the SEJA Workforce Development Hub, a multi-use training facility at 649 S. River St. aimed at preparing local workers for high-paying roles in the renewable energy sector.

The project is the result of a 10-year collaboration between the city and state to bring climate policy to life through job creation. The hub features partnerships with the 548 Foundation and the College of DuPage to provide certifications in green technology.

“If you give somebody a job opportunity, it gives them hope that they can anchor a family and truly lead a community,” a city spokesperson said during a video presentation at Tuesday’s City Council meeting…
