CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The replacement of the Chickamauga Lock is taking longer and costing more than originally expected. Now, we have a clearer picture why.
The office of Congressman Chuck Fleischmann told our newsroom on Tuesday that a combination of contractor mistakes and pandemic-era hurdles are responsible for the project’s mounting price tag.
The update comes after the U.S. House of Representatives recently voted to provide full funding for the replacement project.
Justin Doil, a spokesperson for Fleischmann, says contractors involved in the refurbishment made several errors on the job site.
Those mistakes included faulty concrete pours that crews had to tear out and replace. Doil says those errors greatly increased both the time and the expense of the project…
