Record warmth reached the Bay Area on Wednesday, part of a broader burst of unseasonable heat that flipped California’s usual temperature pattern on its head.
Oakland reached 74 degrees to set a daily record, while Redwood City hit 74 degrees and Half Moon Bay reached 73. San Francisco topped out near 70 degrees downtown, with highs in the low 70s across parts of the East Bay. Farther south, San Jose climbed to 72 degrees, giving Santa Clara County a springlike feel days before the Super Bowl. Areas around Monterey Bay surged into the 80s.
Southern California also logged widespread record warmth. Los Angeles International Airport set a new record at 87 degrees. Daily records were also set at UCLA, Long Beach and Burbank. Farther north, Santa Barbara set a new record of 82 degrees and Santa Maria tied its daily record at 84 degrees…
