TAMPA, Florida — A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly poisoning and killing his girlfriend’s dog, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
In May 2025, Edwin Campuzano, of Bartow, Florida, reportedly left poison pellets in the food bowl of a 3-year-old Maltese Poodle while his girlfriend was away on a trip. The dog consumed the poison and died, with leftover pellets later recovered from the bowl. A store transaction revealed that Campuzano purchased the poison from Tractor Supply using his debit card two days before the incident.
The case was reported to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in December 2025, leading to an arrest warrant issued on January 16, 2026. Campuzano turned himself in the same day and was charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
