Amazon layoffs to impact hundreds of Bay Area jobs, in latest sign of rough road ahead for tech industry

(KRON) — Amazon will be cutting hundreds of jobs across the Bay Area in the company’s latest rounds of layoffs. According to state filings with the Employment Development Department, the e-commerce giant will be cutting 769 jobs locally.

The majority of the job cuts — 666 of them — will be across several facilities in Santa Clara County, in Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Santa Clara and Palo Alto. The company will be cutting another 103 jobs at two San Francisco offices.

All of the job cuts are permanent, according to state filings.

Amazon’s latest layoffs come just one month into what has already been a tough year for the tech industry. So far in 2026, we’ve seen job cuts at Autodesk, Pinterest, and Facebook parent company Meta.
