Drone deer survey to run Feb. 9-13 in northern Iowa City, from dusk to dawn

IOWA CITY, Iowa — A survey of the deer population in northern Iowa City is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 9, city officials said.

White Buffalo Inc. will conduct the survey using drones through Feb. 13, weather permitting. The counts will take place from dusk to dawn each day.

The survey area includes parts of northern Iowa City bounded by Interstate 80 to the north, Scott Boulevard and the former ACT property to the east, Rochester Avenue to the south, and City Park and the Peninsula, Normandy and Manville Heights neighborhoods to the west.

City officials said the annual aerial survey provides an accurate estimate of the local deer population and helps guide the city’s deer management efforts…
