Three Central Iowa Community Lakes Stocked with Rainbow Trout

(Iowa) — Three central Iowa lakes have been freshly stocked with rainbow trout. Last week, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources stocked Lake Petocka in Bondurant, Triumph Park East and West in Waukee, and Ada Hayden Heritage Park Lake in Ames.

Seth Fopma, Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says: “We stock them pretty hungry from the hatchery, and we really want to give a product that people can readily catch and get experience with. So the sooner people get out after them, the more of them will be in the water, but they do exist in the systems for several months.”

Anglers need to have a valid fishing license and have paid the additional trout fee to fish for rainbow trout. Children ages 15 and younger can fish for trout without a license as long as they’re accompanied by a properly licensed adult…
