Oklahoma is notorious for lacking a nightlife scene in most towns. In most cases, it’s hanging out at the town drag until you’re old enough to start visiting the bars. Maybe there aren’t a lot of options, but you’ll never see a shortage of places to dance.
We’re big fans of two-stepping, line dancing, and just plain ol’ “getting down.” The best part is there are options for every level of skill; yes, even for the folks who claim to have two left feet.
Whether you and your partner want to learn how to dance for a special occasion, or you want to try something new for a date night, you have options. Here are the best places in Oklahoma, according to our supporters, for couples to go dancing.
IDance International Studio – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Although there are plenty of bars that cater to country dancing, there are a few spots that add some variety to their dance lesson selection. IDance Studios in Oklahoma City offers sessions for salsa dancing, bachata, kizomba, tango, and more.
Oklahoma Ranch – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
One of the largest dance halls in state is Oklahoma Ranch. Multiple bars, pool tables, and hang out areas surround an enormous dance floor that is almost always packed. One of their dance instructors, Justin Staton, reached out to tell us about the free class that he hosts on Friday nights, between 8:15 p.m. and 9 p.m.
“It’s a free class so would love for yall to come out one night,” he said. There are also options for those who may not want to learn in a dance hall. He teaches more classes in Edmond at a private studio for both couples and singles every Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a social dance follows.
C.W. Scooters – Lawton, Oklahoma
Small towns are probably the hardest places to find things to do, but Lawton is fortunate to have one of the best places for dancing. C.W. Scooters is one of, if not the only, place that has a dance floor in town.
DJ Ronnie is bringing back 80s and 90s line dancing and couples dancing on Thursday evenings. As of right now, he’s doing a trial run to see if the community wants something like this to happen weekly. So, if you want it to keep happening, it’s time to bring your dancing partner and show up.
