HISD broke barriers with the first public French program in Texas. Now, it plans to dismantle it.

Last year, Houston ISD’s Mark White Elementary received a special honor for its trailblazing French dual language program – a seal of approval from the Consulate General of France.

Next year, the program could be dismantled.

The program –  the first of its kind in a Texas public school – is expected to move from an immersion model to a less-intensive “enrichment” approach on the eve of its tenth anniversary, according to presentation slides obtained by the Houston Chronicle…
