Abbeville Police officers take city to court

ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) — Several senior officers with the Abbeville Police Department are continuing a legal battle with the City of Abbeville over what they describe as improper pay practices.

Eleven officers filed suit against the city earlier this year, alleging the city failed to comply with state law regarding officer compensation funded by a local sales tax.

In February 2025, the officers officially took the city to court, arguing that the sales tax revenue was intended to raise starting officer salaries to at least $40,000 annually.
