Illinois lawmakers consider permit fee for open burns

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — A new Illinois proposal would require permits and possibly pay up to a $5 fee for open burning in unincorporated areas.

House Bill 4459 would require anyone conducting an open burn to obtain a permit. It would also allow municipalities to decide on a fee of up to $5, with the money going directly to local fire protection services.
