Driver Arrested After DWI Crash on SH-183 in Irving, Fled Scene Leaving Injured Passengers

IRVING, Texas – Irving police arrested a 22-year-old man after a late-night crash on State Highway 183 that left two people injured and the suspected at-fault driver fleeing the scene, authorities said.

Officers with the Irving Police Department were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2026, to a major collision on eastbound SH-183 at North O’Connor Road. Investigators determined that Walter Carranza-Portillo, 22, was the sole occupant of a Ford F-150 that collided with a red Dodge Charger.

Police said the Dodge Charger was left inoperable. The driver, a 23-year-old man, sustained minor injuries, while a 23-year-old female passenger was transported to a hospital with a broken arm. Carranza-Portillo suffered a fractured clavicle and fled the scene on foot before officers arrived…
