Fire destroys South Main Street building in Akron, demolition underway

AKRON, OH – A late-night fire tore through a commercial building on South Main Street Tuesday, leaving behind heavy damage and forcing city officials to order an immediate demolition of the structure.

Akron Police said South Main Street remains closed between East Emerling Avenue and Brighton Drive as fire crews continue to extinguish remaining hot spots at 1431 South Main Street. The blaze, which broke out Tuesday night, engulfed the building and caused structural instability throughout the property.
