Man convicted of attempted murder in Kalamazoo shooting that injured 4

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man has been convicted of a slew of charges stemming from a December 2024 shooting in Kalamazoo that injured four people.

Javion Jackson was found guilty Wednesday of five counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, three counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle causing injury, a number of weapons charges and tampering with evidence, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said.

The shooting happened Dec. 3, 2024, outside the Little Caesars on West Main Street near Northampton Road. Police said that two people in a parked car starting shooting at people in other cars. Three people were shot and wounded and a fourth injured by shrapnel.

Court documents show investigators identified Jackson and co-defendant Dominique Motton as the suspects because Motton was driving his then-girlfriend’s car at the time of the shooting. License plate readers caught the car’s plates and police later found it part at an apartment complex. When they talked to the owner, she said Motton and Jackson took it the night of the shooting.

Police say ballistics matched Jackson’s gun to the one used in the shooting and they found ammunition in Motton’s apartment that matched the ammunition found at the shooting scene…
