StormTeam 3: Rain today gives us beautiful weekend weather

SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) – Good morning -Stormteam 3 Meteorologist Alysa Carsley here. Let’s have a fabulous Wednesday!

Inland communities started their day with steady rain, while areas across the coast have been dry. This will change later this afternoon as a slow-moving cold front pushes towards the coast. Widespread rain is expected through the evening commute and into tonight before tapering off early Thursday morning.

Rainfall totals are neither impressive nor beneficial. We are currently 2.53″ below normal for this year, as we carried over the drought from 2025. Extreme to severe drought conditions continue to expand, and unfortunately, for the drought, today’s rain is our only chance over the next 7 days.

Tonight’s cold front gives us rain but also a quick cooldown! Even after the rain tapers off tonight, it stays mostly cloudy tomorrow. The clouds plus the strong, breezy northerly wind will knock our high temperatures down below average again into the upper 40s to generously 50 degrees.

The good news is this cooldown is short-lived!! Besides Friday morning, below freezing, our temperatures continue to warm. Highs are back into the upper 50s Friday and then around average in the lower 60s Saturday and Sunday! A gorgeous weekend that we all deserve after 3 back-to-back…to back weekends of winter weather and bitter cold!…
