Pavement collapse closes downtown STL street

ST. LOUIS – Spruce Street between Broadway and Fourth Streets was shut down on Wednesday night as City of St. Louis water crews responded to a pavement collapse.

A spokesperson for the city’s Water Division told FOX 2 that a vehicle on Spruce Street traveled over an area of weakened pavement, and a hole formed.

Why the pavement weakened was not immediately known. The hole appeared to be approximately two feet wide. A water department spokesperson said crews were examining an area of roughly 27 feet by 24 feet to determine what caused the collapse…
