Body Found in Creek Confirmed as Missing Man From Chicago Area

A body recovered from a creek in Chicago’s northwest suburbs has been identified as a missing Elgin man, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities say the body of an adult male was pulled from Jelkes Creek in West Dundee on Monday.  Following an autopsy conducted Wednesday, the man was identified as Joseph L. Johnson Jr., 52, of Elgin.  He has been reported missing by family on January 22nd.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office says the preliminary cause of death appears to be drowning.  Toxicology testing is still underway, and officials note that final results are still pending.

Investigators have not released details of how Johnson ended up in the creek or the circumstances leading up to his death.  The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected…
