For the first time in nearly 40 years, the South Beloit Public Library is getting a floor-to-ceiling makeover. On January 12, 2026, the Library Board greenlit a $526,500 bid from Scandroli to modernize the facility, marking the end of a decades-long wait for interior improvements.
The road to renovation hasn’t been short. After a 2018 referendum for a new combined City Hall and Library building failed, the board pivoted to investing in their current home. Following critical structural fixes—including a new roof and HVAC system in 2022—the focus has finally shifted to the patron experience.
“Frequently, we would hear from patrons that the library hasn’t changed at all since they were kids,” said Director Brenda Weinberg in the library’s press release. “With the renovation, we will retain the small familiar hometown feel, while creating a fresh and inviting atmosphere.”…
