[1] Suspect dead after standoff on I-40 in Albuquerque ends with police shooting – APD said a suspect is dead following an hours-long standoff that ended with the suspect being shot by police and dying on scene late Tuesday night. APD said that around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, they received a call about a vehicle driving dangerously on I-40 near Eubank when it sideswiped another vehicle. They said the suspect fled the scene, but officers later found him between the eastbound and westbound lanes. Interim Police Chief Cecily Barker says the suspect was armed with a gun, which he pointed at officers and fired at a police drone during the standoff.

[2] Immigrant Safety Act headed to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s desk – A bill to keep ICE detention facilities out of New Mexico is now on its way to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s desk. The state Senate approved the bill Tuesday night after hours of debate. House Bill 9, known as the Immigrant Safety Act, would bar local governments from contracting with ICE for immigrant detention centers. Right now, there are three in the state in Torrance, Cibola, and Otero Counties. After passing the House last week, House Bill 9 passed the Senate by a 24-15 vote.

[3] Brief & gusty cooldown before warmer air returns – A stronger front will push into northeastern New Mexico and move through the rest of the state by Wednesday morning. A few sprinkles or flurries are possible in far northeast, but most areas will stay dry. Wednesday afternoon highs will drop closer to normal, with the coolest air across the east. High pressure builds back over the state Thursday, kicking off another round of warming that will last through the weekend…
