Crash probe in Eugene: car linked to UO student’s death seized

EUGENE, Ore. – A vehicle-pedestrian crash last month claimed the life of Erick Njue, a University of Oregon graduate student, after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle near 22nd Avenue and Patterson Street.

Authorities have now seized the vehicle involved as they investigate the incident as a potential crime. According to a search warrant affidavit filed in Lane County Circuit Court, the car that struck Njue was allegedly speeding at more than 50 miles per hour in a 25-mile per hour zone.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the silver Infiniti passing other cars and making rapid lane changes just before the crash…
