Crowd Stunned As Divers Haul Man From Tacoma’s Thea Foss Waterway

A routine evening on Tacoma’s waterfront turned tense on Tuesday when rescue divers pulled a man from the Thea Foss Waterway near Dock Street, as bystanders lined the esplanade and filmed the unfolding drama.

Pierce County and Tacoma emergency crews began CPR on the shoreline before loading the man into an ambulance and taking him to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately known. Part of the waterfront was temporarily closed as first responders worked the scene and the crowd gathered.

Rescue teams recover man from water

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office rescue dive team located and pulled a man from the water near 1195 Dock St after a 911 caller reported someone in distress. Tacoma firefighters initially searched the dock area and did not find anyone, so divers were sent into the channel. Witnesses at the nearby Fish Peddler restaurant reported hearing a man yelling and directed crews toward the area.

Once the man was brought to shore, responders started CPR and continued life-saving measures until he was transported to a nearby hospital at about 7:05 p.m. His condition remained unknown as of Tuesday night, according to The News Tribune…
