‘Enough is enough’: plan for new hotel in Kahuku faces pushback, legal challenge

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The decades-old “Keep The Country Country” movement is powering up again on Oahu’s North Shore after the city approved a plan for a new hotel next to The Ritz-Carlton Oahu at Turtle Bay.

Earthjustice filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the City’s Department of Planning and Permitting for approving the proposal for a 375-room building based on an environmental impact statement from 2013.

“In the thirteen years since then, the situation on the ground has really changed and we have a lot more information about the ecological and cultural sensitivity on this shoreline,” Earthjustice attorney Dru Hara said. “Before they come in with the bulldozers and the pile drivers, we want to have a full understanding of the impact this is going to have.”…
